Would a possible $300 Million pay day change your behaviour? Would you lower your standards?
This question was answered very clearly by Leeds United Football Club on the weekend.
Leeds currently play in the Championship – the English second division competition. They are vying for promotion to Premier League and a win against their opponents would guarantee that result.
Promotion is a big achievement and would deliver huge financial rewards - an estimated £170 Million (about AUD$312 Million).
With everything riding on this match and in front of a packed stadium, they score what could be the winning goal. However, not only did they break the unwritten rule of stopping the game when an opponent is injured, but they seemed to indicate they would, then took advantage of the lull to score.
Villa and their fans were in uproar, but there was nothing the referee could do – the goal had been scored legally and had to stand.
But the Leeds coach did not want to win that way, and neither did some of his players.
What they did next will shock you, but is a vivid demonstration that there are people who continue to believe that how you act is just as important as the result you get.
