What are your plans for 2020?
I was talking to my wife over Christmas and she asked me what my plans were for this year,
specifically what races was I targeting (if we haven’t yet met, I love running).
She’d been prodding me gently for a little while, as the second half of last year was really hectic and I
hadn’t made enough time for myself.
I hummed and hawed for a while, commenting that there was so much to do this year I hadn’t really
thought much about it.
Knowing one of my big goals is to complete the 6 Marathon Majors, she pushed a little more and
suggested I should book one of these in; in fact she practically ordered me to.
The result - I’m running the Chicago Marathon in October of this year.
What this has meant is greater clarity and focus on what I need to do to be in shape to tackle this
challenge, and as a result my running has greater purpose and I’m not finding excuses to slack off.
We’ve also re-set our financial goals for the year and there’s been a similar improvement already.
2020 is the start of a new decade so it’s a good time to set some big goals.
